This unit introduces both the observational understanding of plants and the practicalities of working with plants in the context of biodynamic agriculture.
Horticulture, fruit growing, arable cultivation, and caring for pastureland become the practical focus of the unit. This is complemented by observation exercises to provide deeper understanding of plants, their annual rhythms and their life cycles. The role of plants in the farm organism is also considered so that the contribution of the plant kingdom to the overall well being of the farm is fully explored. Finally the question of seeds is addressed, how to work with, breed and produce seeds which are really working with the farm organism and how the modern approach to seeds has fundamentally changed the way farmers engage with the plant world.
