Weleda (UK) Ltd are offering a unique opportunity to work alongside the permanent garden team in our gardens in Derbyshire.
The gardens are on a 13acre site in Shipley, two miles away from our company headquarters in Ilkeston. They feature herb gardens, flowering meadows, crop fields, a couple of ponds, woodland edges, a small apiary, greenhouse and polytunnels. The small garden team grow and harvest medicinal herbs for Weleda UK’s natural medicines and body care production, much of the work still being done by hand. Unusually, the gardeners also produce the fresh plant tinctures, following GMP/medicines manufacturing guidelines. The gardens also play an important role in Weleda’s marketing activities, and are a venue for guided tours, open days, workshops/training and staff events.
We have been Demeter certified for over thirty years, maintaining high standards of biodynamic practice and we make all our own biodynamic preparations. We also have a monthly biodynamic study group attended by local farmers and gardeners, and usually run several different workshops throughout the year including Goethean plant studies.
We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic and energetic and keen to learn about biodynamic gardening, herb growing and processing and is interested in a conservation approach to land management as well as the more usual crop production methods.
A keen interest in herbs and biodynamics is essential, as is the ability to be sociable and friendly to the many visitors and volunteers who come through our garden gate. The successful applicant will be welcomed into our small, friendly, experienced and supportive team.
